MRC CR-2 Dual Calcium Reactor
Searched MRC CR-2 Dual Calcium Reactor in Reviews
great calcium reactor for tanks up to about 500 gallons
Installation and Operation
This is a great reactor. I've been using it for the last few years without issue. There's a little overhead in getting it installed, but it comes with all the proper hardware to make it happen. Just add hoses. Operationally, it's been pretty much hands-off for me. Once I got it dialed in, I havent had to do much other than increase or decrease flow rate depending on overall supplementation needs.

Performance vs. Expectations
The performance of this unit has been very good. I havent had any issue with the quality of this product, it has held up well in the 3 years I've had it. It's easy to access the media chambers, and it doesn't require any cleaning maintenance in my experience. Overall, I've been very pleased with the performance of this calcium reactor.

Value for money
Compared to other manufacturers, I actually think this reactor chamber is a pretty good value. For the size of tank that it would handle (easily up to 500 gallons), it's a good investment. I also like that it gives different pump options for circulation.

I really like the size of this unit in terms of how much media it can handle, as well as the second chamber for aiding in the buffering of pH before the effluent goes into the tank. It is easy to use and install, and getting into the media chambers is pretty straight forward. While mine came with a mag2 pump when I bought it (years ago), now they offer various pumps. This is a plus, as the mag pumps are prone to leaking when used in external applications. All said, this is a great reactor if you need a lot of supplementation for your tank.

No real negatives for this unit, I think it works well and the options that it comes with make it a good choice. The cost is high, but I think you get a lot for what you're paying and in comparison to some other units on the market. I honestly can't think of anything bad about the unit with the small exception of it's physical size; it may be too big for some applications, particularly if you want to stick it under a stand.

Great reactor
Installation and Operation
Easy to install. Takes time to figure out proper effluent flows and pH values, but that is true with any calcium reactor -- every tank system is different and will require different values. The instruction manual supplied is excellent in helping with setup.

Great performance. Maintains my values perfectly.

Pricey calc reactor. In terms of build quality it's well worth it though.
It would be nice to have a pump supplied, but getting a separate one allows you to customize your setup to your liking.

MRC has excellent customer support. They always answer my question within the hour if not within a couple minutes of an email.

Quality. Thick acrylic.
Dual chambers.
Easy and intuitive setup.

Didn't like
Could be cheaper; the thick acrylic helps justify the cost though.
Design can be considered antiquated; but the dual chambers solves this issue.
Require modification or extra cost to mount pH probe.
