Korallin = quality! German Engineering is demonstrated again! featured

Installation and Operation The c1502 is pretty easy to setup. I am using a siphon from my sump which is elevated about four feet into the air on a stand and the reactor sits on the floor. This gives me plenty of flow via a siphon. It does take a while to "tune" it so invest in some alk tests :)

I strongly urge you to pick up a ph controller of some type. I am using the second probe port on my Apex controller to shut off the co2 solenoid if the effluent ph or my tank ph drops too low. However don't rely on the controller to turn on or off your co2. Dial in the Co2 to get your parameters correct and then use the controller as a safety measure. I put a cup in my sump and drip the effluent into there and then placed my 2nd ph probe in the cup to track the ph of the reactor to make sure i don't melt my media.

Performance vs. Expectations I have been dosing two part for a a couple of years and I was becoming irritated with the time spent dosing and the amount I had to dose to keep up with the needs of my clams and was becoming very expensive. Now that I have it tuned in I am able to keep my alk at 9 and my calcium levels at 450.

Value for money From what I have read the device is very efficient with the CO2. I purchased the c1502 used and the previous owner had it for 1.5 years and had not emptied his 5 pound co2 canister once! The initial investment is a little pricey but I think it more than makes up for it in the long run.

Customer Support I have worked with support on my Korallin S3002 sulfur denitrator once and they were not very helpful. However there is the German-English language barrier.

Liked about it Stable alk and calc levels! The excellent side effect of keeping my alk and calc at a consistent level is that my PH is a LOT more stable and much higher. I live in Wisconsin and six months out of the year my windows are shut due to either extreme cold or extreme heat. Since adding the c1502 my tanks ph has climbed from 7.8 to 8.3 and stays there!

Very well built, I am very happy with Korallins' craftsmanship.

The c1502 is pretty easy to tune in and handles my 300 gallons of total water volume easily. I have not even really come close to maxing out the output on the c1502. Granted I am not overstocked yet but I do have two very large clams and 6 small-medium ones. Plus my coralline has really started to take off along with my sps.

My friends and wife think I am a mad scientist with this sitting under my sump next to my s3002. :)

Didn't like You have to spend extra for a lid that has a ph probe port drilled. Look online for a diy on drilling the lid yourself or just use a cup to drip your effluent in and place a probe in there. This is a single chamber reactor so the ph in the cup is the same as in the reactor.

the valves that come stock on Korallin products are complete crap, invest in some john guest valves.

Great Ca Reator! featured

Installation and Operation Easy, took a little time to understand how everything worked and hooked up but after that, clear sailing. I wish that the bubble counter was detachable as it would make replacemet easier. These often get broken by the owner.

Performance vs. Expectations Performs well. My expectations were a bit higher though. Really starts to shine if you feed the reactor instead of letting it siphon feed water.

Value for money A little on the higher side, but you do get a well built piece of equipment and a quality pump with it.

Customer Support No, but I had a hard time even finding a web address for them.

Liked about it Good reactor. I have 2 of them. One is a bit older and appears to be made totally out of PVC and the newer one is acrylic. The older PVC one is built like a tank and can take probably anything you could through at it. The newer acrylic one isn't built as heavy duty but is still nice. The cylinder wall thickness is 1/4" and the flanges are 3/8" thick. They don't use as much CO2 as other reactors. I maintain a pH of 6.4 in the reactor and after a year I am still on the same 5lb CO2 bottle. My effluent rate is about 3 drips per second, I have went through 2 fills of media with this same 5lb bottle.

Didn't like Bubble counter hard mounted. It would be better for the customer if it were detachable. No pH probe port, even if it had a plug for one that you could add a fitting to it would be better. There is a lid available separately for the reactor with a pH probe port in it, but that's another item you have to purchase.

Good reactor...

General The Korallin 1502 reactor is a nice piece of equipment that is fairly easy to set up. Maintaining a specific drip rate can be difficult if used as packaged, I've found that adding a precision needle valve to the output helps considerably. I also drilled the upper cover on mine and added a ph probe holder to allow me to utilize a ph controller, this has helped tremendously. With these few mods, this reactor is sizing up to be a very good asset in maintaining the Cal/Alk levels in my 180gal SPS reef.

Liked about it Built well, auto filling bubble counter, eheim pump.

Didn't like Had to add needle valve for better adjustment, have to purchase a new lid to get a ph probe holder.

Korallin CA Reactor

General I highly recommend this if you have a lot of SPS or just a high demand in your system. I'm very happy. EMail me with questions.

Liked about it This reactor is a great setup. I got the full package from Marine Depot and connected it all up and it works like a charm. It get's me out of 2 part dosing and keeps my Ca and Alk right on the money.

Didn't like I don't like the fact that my pH is now running about 0.1 lower (but still a consistent day/night cycle) than before but everything seem happy so i'm not going to worry about it.
