Great Series
| General |
The series of books by Delbeek and Sprung is an incredible tome of knowledge. There are three books in the series, each focusing on a different area of reef keeping.
I refer to the series as my bible of reef keeping. I keep these by my bedside table and peruse them nightly. There is so much information it can be somewhat overwhelming, take your time, enjoy.
It can be quite technical at times but it is not too much for the beginner.
For the beginner I would recommend starting with Volume 3. This deals with the setup of a new tank, including aquascaping, lifts, plenum, plumbing, skimmers, pumps, powerheads. There is also a great discussion on nitrate reduction methods. I wish I had this book when I first started. It's still great now that I have a couple of years of experience under my belt.
Volume 1 centers around Stony corals and Clams, including the propagation of the coral. There is also a valuable section on disease and treatment. There is a wealth of information on clams and their care.
Volume 2 focuses on the softies and anemones. Being a ricordea freak I really enjoyed the cultivation topic on ricordeas. Again it delves into the diseases and treatments of soft corals along with parasites and other nasties.
The pictures in all three are very disappointing for the most part, often fuzzy or using a flash that blows out the color. |

Stock full of useful info for the advanced aquarist or the humble beginner.
Volume 3 is a must have for a beginner!

Expensive
some areas in the books are somewhat dated but still very relevant.
I wish some of the pictures were more colorful.
Volume 2 does not go as far in depth on the softies as I would have liked.

Great Reference Material. Worth the Money
| Comments |
This Book is great, the first reading was difficult because the book is written at a professional to proffesional level (ie:lots of biological terms) the information provided is true, acurate and time tested.

lots of information on numerious topics in the first volume. information provided is true and acurate to my experiences in the hobby.

Pricey, (worth it) but pricey. well written but on a level that is from professional to professional. I am very much a lay person (like lazy) and needed a dictionary for many of the terms and words.

These books are definitely one of the most in-depth books on reef keeping I've ever seen, it talks about each part of fish keeping. It is sometimes considered the bible of reefkeeping

It talks about every single part of marine reef keeping and is probably the reference book of all of my questions. The information truly reflects on how successful my aquarium is.

one of three esentials
| Comments |
this is the first building block of the best three reef books around. i have a signed copy which is really cool. This series is unbeatable. I waited for the price to come down from 90 bucks when the book first came out but even at that price it would still be a good deal.

A must have
| General |
This series is where I obtained the knowledge framework for reefkeeping that I am still hanging new information on today. This three volume set should be in every reefkeepers library and volume 3 dealing with the setup of a new tank covers nearly all the basics. It should be read by every new hobbyist at least twice. Volume 1 deals more with stony corals and clams and thus is a must have for the LPS/SPS crowd. |
