Worth buying but not the best book
| Comments |
I'm not sorry I purchased this book, it's a good book, but just not a great book. First off, in the edition I have there are random photos of fish, corals and inverts. One gets the impression these were put in just to fill pages so they could sell this as a book rather than a pamphlet.
The first couple of chapters should actually be the last couple of chapters. The author states that they set the foundation for what comes after, but really I didn't feel that they did. I thought they would be better as appendixes for those wanting to know more about chemistry in general. For an aquarist, they really just want to get down to the business of what's going on in their tank.
Once the book does finally get into this information it's well presented. The information is not dumbed down but also not so complex that people aren't going to understand it.
I wouldn't say this is THE book for beginner reef keepers to learn about water chemistry, but it certainly is a useful tool and the reader will learn. Just the information on pH is worth the purchase price.

1. Easy to understand information.
2. Affordable.
3. Covers the topic well enough for most needs.
|
| Didn't like |
1. Pages are wasted on photos that aren't related to water chemistry.
2. First two chapters should be at end or not included at all.

Good stuff, but a lot of typos

I have all of my new staff members read this book. They get a lot of good information from it, but there are several bad typos. Many of the graphs have the X & Y axis labels switched! HA, I couldn't believe it!
