Hagen Battery Operated Air Pump

Hagen's Battery Operated pump provides auxilary air when your main air source fails. This is a reliable back-up air source during electrical power failures. It also acts as a portable aerator when transporting fish...

Way better than you think it is featured

Installation and Operation When I hear about a product like this I usually think it's some gimmick that won't really work very well. However, in true Hagen fashion this is a surprisingly good product with no gimmick at all. To install just put in the batteries, hook up the hose and stone and turn it on...that's about it. It has a flow control knob so you can decrease or increase the air flow depending on the size of container.

Performance vs. Expectations
The first thing that really surprised me was how long the batteries lasted. It used two D-cell batteries which are not included and they last for a very long time. I use this pump not only when the power is out, but when I am moving fish around tanks, moving cords, acclimating, just all sorts of different things. It's great for moving fish from one location to another in a car.

The second thing that surprised me was the air output, it was more than enough to aerate my tank or bucket.

It does come with the air stone and a short (about a foot and a half) length of air hose.

Value for money I only paid $9 for this. Which is actually less than I have paid for normal Tetra air pumps. Perhaps because it isn't designed for continuous use it was not as costly. Regardless of the reason, I really fell like it's worth the money for the piece of mind you get during power outages. If you're like me, they freak you out.

Customer Support I didn't have to use customer support on this particular product but I have on other Hagen products and they are always awesome.

Liked about it 1. Powerful.
2. Battery lasts a good long time.
3. Comes with hose and stone.
4. Gives you a feeling of security in a power outage.

Didn't like 1. Doesn't come with batteries.
2. Is a bit bulky.

A Versatile Back-up Air Pump featured

Installation and Operation I initially used my Hagen Battery Operated pump for my freshwater tanks for when there was a power outage to make sure that there was water movement and to make sure that oxygen would be circulated throughout the tank. When I made the switch to saltwater I kept these pumps for the same purpose, but have found so many uses for this little pump. It is easy to install and operate. You just attach the tube and air stone, pop in batteries, and turn the switch and there you go. When transporting fish this was a great buy. As a college student I had to move my tanks 4 times a year and used this pump to help provide oxygen. I did the same thing when I moved from Michigan to Illinois and it worked great. I am currently using this pump as a modification to a skimmer until I can go out and get a better air pump.

Performance vs. Expectations This product worked great for me. It help provide oxygen and water movment to tanks during power outages, helped provide my fish with oxygen while transporting long distances, and has been a great short term modification to a skimmer. I wasn't sure how well this product would work since it looked some what cheap, but I was pleasantly surpised and it did its job well.

Value for money The Hagen Battery operated pump is fairly inexpensive and works well for the price. I now have two of these pumps just in case there is an emergency or another move. It was definitely a cheap solution to the problem of power outages and dealing with long moves for fish.

Liked about it I like how versatile this pump is.
The price is right!
Great for Power outages and fish transportation.
Gets the job done.
Air hose and stone come with it.
Great for short term issues.

Didn't like The air hose that came with it could be longer.
Since the airstone floats if not held down I used a sinker modification to keep it below the surface.
The build is somewhat cheap so it can break easily and will most likely break down if used for extended periods of time.

For the price you can't go wrong

General This would be something that I would for sure trust in power outages to keep my tank alive.

Liked about it Does what it claims to do, make lots of little bubbles.

Didn't like I used one for 4 weeks straight, with lots of battery changes and the motor started to fail.
