As hobbyists, one of the biggest battles we are faced with on a consistent basis is keeping our marine habitats as pest and disease free as possible. One of the key elements in doing this effectively is following a strict regimen of dips prior to introducing any new corals into your tank.
When used correctly, Lugols solution can be a very effective tool for disinfecting corals (especially SPS) prior to introduction to your system. I currently use Blue Life Lugols dip in conjunction with a Flat Worm treatment dip on every coral that goes into my display. The dip works great and you can actually see the pests fall away from the coral. A word of caution though, follow the label directions. It can be a very beneficial process when done correctly, but it can also be a very harmful one if the directions are not followed. |

Eye dropper tends to degrade long term, seems to be the norm for iodine based solutions though.
