Noticable Results featured

Comments My LFS recommended this product after they notices results in the store tanks and in their home tanks.
I noticed a difference in 48 hours.

Liked about it Within 48 hours: Wells Brain (Trachyphyllia radiata) never looked better with much more color variations and tentacle extension. Dr Seuss Duncan (Duncanopsammia axifuga) also looks much better. Slight improvement in Blue Tonga mushrooms and Ricordea florida, which already were doing very well.

Didn't like I was told to use 2/3 strength (which I did)because oxygen levels might drop a bit.
Need to refrigerate (and warn the kids not to drink it).

Update: After comparing results with customers at my LFS, we have determined that you should use 2/3 of the recommended dosage the first couple of times that you use it, then 1/4 to 1/3 of the recommended dosage in subsequent dosages. It seems that certain corals (like Duncans) show quick improvement, but then retract a bit at 2/3 dosage. Cut back to 1/3 to 1/4 and everybody is happy. It is still a recommend, but at lower dosages.

Product Review: Aquavitro Fuel by Seachem featured

Comments While intrigued by various methods of dosing nutrients for corals, I'd never been totally sold on the expensive and complicated commercially available products. After reading a bit on Seachem's Aquavitro Fuel, I decided to give it a try. The product is marketed as an additive featuring an algae known as chlorella, which is said to contain high levels of vitamins, amino acids, etc. As received the product was well packaged and the directions were quite clear. Shake well, and recommended dosage is 7ml per 30 gallons. Refrigerate after opening. Simplicity is definitely appreciated, and Fuel didn't disappoint.

My tank is likely a good candidate to show the potential of this product. A substrate-free, high flow, aggressive skimming SPS dominated tank, I generally lean towards having too little nutrient content in the tank. All the same, I decided to start dosing at half the recommended value, and for the ~150 gallons I started at about 20ml twice per week. I tried hard not to change any other variables with the tank, feeding the fish at the same schedule and performing water changes/skimmer maintenance at the same rate. After two weeks, while there was a bit more algae on the glass, polyp extension on the SPS corals did appear to increase. For the next three weeks, I dosed 40ml twice a week. Again, algae growth on the glass increased, but the coral response was rather favorable. After the 5-6 weeks of product use, the polyp extension was notably better, and colors seemed to be more vibrant. Growth rate is hard to measure, particularly without a control to compare growth against, but new growth was visible on most all stony corals in the tank. The only measurable parameters I had to monitor where nutrient content in the tank, though tests of phosphate and nitrate remained negligible throughout my use of Fuel (though obviously their content increased as observed through the faster growth of algae on the glass).

My diagnosis is that Fuel is a great solution for folks with low nutrient content tanks who are looking for something to bolster their coral diet, but who arent interested in spending hundreds of dollars and hours of time on reactors/supplements required for the more exotic dosing regimens. The only drawback is that it's likely going to force a bit more time cleaning the display from algae growth, but that's true any time more nutrients are available in the water column. I imagine that tanks set up with lots of fish, tanks that are heavily fed, or other systems that are considered high nutrient contents won't see the same benefit, but there's little risk in giving it a try.

Liked about it Quality product which is simple to use.

Didn't like May not be great for all applications, see review for more details.

Works for me

Comments The product works like a multivitamin for my corals. Just an added boost once a week to keep my corals healthy and happy. My LFS told me to underdose a bit from what the instructions prescribe. I think that is a smart thing to do when using any product as you never quite know how things will react.

My Frogspawn which was dead and I could see nothing but a skeleton, has seemed to come back to life when I began using this product.

Liked about it Great directions.
Built in measuring device makes it easy to measure correct amount.

Didn't like Smells a bit funny.
Has to be refrigerated after opening.

Best I have found in 10 years in the hobby

Comments I have been doing reef tanks for ten years now and this is the one that does what it has it does. I have found that I use less of this to get better results than I had in the past. Better value for the money but would be willing to pay more. The proof is in the pudding in our reef club 70 % of the members have swapped to this after seeing my tank. I have also got my local store using just it in there tanks and there sales of corals have increased. Not sure if it could be better but if they can I will be in line to get it.

Liked about it I have great polyp extension than using any of the competitors products and I have used them all. I aslo have never experence any blooms of any sort when using this, cant say that for some of the others on the market. Cant beat the price for this either.

Didn't like wish it was in some bigger bottles to buy.
